Kyong Boon Oh

Kyong Boon received her BFA from School of Art Institute of Chicago in 2002, and her BS in Mathematics from Korea University in Korea in 1996. She was a painter before her health issues forced her to stop painting. Now she is walking in the path of sculpting and a founding member of SSGOC(Stone Sculptors Guild of Orange County).

“With a form of Möbius strip I want to convey a sense of tension of in-between: obvious and ambiguous, open and close, positive and negative, flow and falter.

Discovering and revealing a new passage through digging the negative space in a given stone, the very negative space becomes a pathway. And removing superfluity, only necessity remains.

This process clarifies my mind and releases me from the ambiguous human images trapped in deep down shadow. While carving the inside of stones, the human image becomes clearer so as to be touched in various mediums.

To me, these strips are like newly discovered roads which are intertwined in complexity but in order.”

Your road led through the sea, your pathway through the mighty waters—
a pathway no one knew was there!   (Psalm 77:19)
